In order to fly during the hours of darkness you will need to obtain a night qualification. This rating covers any helicopter types that you are licensed to fly.
The Night Qualification Course can be undertaken once you have flown 100 hours post PPL(H) test. The course consists of 5 hours theoretical knowledge instruction, 10 hours dual instrument flying and finally 5 hours of flying at night. This final section includes a minimum of 3 hours dual flight instruction, 1 hour cross country and 5 solo night circuits.
There is no test at the end of the course, and once you have achieved the necessary hours and your instructor is satisfied, you can apply to the C.A.A. for a night qualification to be added to your licence.
