Type Rating

Whilst the PPL(H) holder is initially only entitled to fly the helicopter type on which the training was completed, it is only a matter of a short flying course (usually a minimum of 5 hours) to add an extra type to the licence.

For pilots whose PPL(H) training was completed on the R22, a type rating on the R44 offers familiar controls and cockpit layout, but a more powerful six cylinder engine and hydraulic controls creates a faster and smoother flight. More importantly, it also offers room for 2 extra passengers.
